FSU Basketball Weekly Preview: December 16th-22nd
By Jason Parker
Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming games scheduled for play during the 2019-20 season.
Sometimes in life, we all need a little bit of a break – and in the case of the FSU basketball team, the world of final exams and graduation caused the team to take over a week off that might have been the best thing considering how they played in the two games right before that extended time off.
From a road game in the Midwest that actually saw fans of a national championship team taunting the Seminoles – which was hilarious for those of us in garnet and gold – to a comeback win that was against a team that it shouldn’t have been that close against, the Seminoles avoided a week sweep that could have been devastating this early in the season.
Now, FSU basketball and head coach Leonard Hamilton head back to the court this week for two games that has them playing at all points of the state – literally, the Seminoles are going to be playing at all possible points by the time this season is done with the way the schedule plays out.

Here’s our recap of the last week’s action and a preview of what’s ahead for the Seminoles.
Last Week Recap
It was almost two weeks ago that the Seminoles took the court inside of legendary Assembly Hall for their annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge game with this season’s showdown being against an undefeated Indiana Hoosiers team. By the time the game was over, the Hoosiers would still be unbeaten after taking as much as a 17 point lead and coasting to an 80-64 victory.
On December 8th, it was back home for the final game before Finals break – see what we did there – as the Seminoles hosted a Clemson team that took a six point lead into the half. In the second half, FSU basketball shot the lights out of the Tucker Center – over 60 percent, including making 11 three pointers – with a tea high 14 points from Devin Vassell for the 72-53 victory.
Opponent Preview
The action for the Seminoles starts Tuesday inside the Tucker Center as the garnet and gold host in-state foe North Florida. After a start to the season that included four straight wins at one point, the Ospreys have limped to a 6-6 record and lost three of their last four games, included a setback on Saturday to Southern Miss.
On Saturday, the Noles are down in the 954 – Broward County, for those that didn’t know – as they take part in the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic once again, this time against the South Florida Bulls. The Bulls enter the week on a hot streak, winning their last three games and have a 6-4 record with a game against Utah State coming up on Wednesday before both teams head to Sunrise as the Aggies take on the Florida Gators in the same weekend tournament.
Interesting Fact
What once was a rarity for the Seminoles has become normal as the FSU basketball team will be in South Florida again for the annual event around the holidays. All time, the Seminoles are playing in their 11th game with Obie as the host – the giant orange that’s the game’s mascot – with an 8-2 all time record with this being their eighth straight game, winning six of the last seven.
