FSU Basketball: Why long break has been good recently for Noles
By Jason Parker
FSU Basketball will go a total of nine days between their last game and their next one – the longest time this season so far and one of the longest recently.
It was earlier this week – Sunday, to be exact – that the FSU basketball team came together in the second half and did enough to get their first ACC win of the season when they beat the Clemson Tigers at home, a win that came off their blowout loss days before against Indiana.
In case you missed the schedule, the Seminoles have not seen their season come to an end – though it would seem like that considering we are still days away from their next game of the season, which comes Tuesday at home against North Florida for a total of nine games between games.
Some people, myself included, may have wondered if that long of a break – taking place because of FSU basketball players taking final exams last week like the rest of the school – might be the worst thing to avoid getting rusty.

Recent history, however, with head coach Leonard Hamilton’s teams have shown quite the opposite and that the break has actually been a good thing.
Last season, the nine game break was followed by the Seminoles winning four straight games before losing an ACC game against eventual national champs Virginia. The season before, however, saw the Seminoles get blown out on the road by Duke in their first game after the break.
A total of four straight wins in 2016 and five straight wins in 2015 are on the resume for the Seminoles in recent seasons and a look at the rest of the decade shows plenty of win streaks that come after the longest break of the season.
FSU basketball will have two games in the course of a week – hosting the Ospreys on Tuesday before traveling to Broward County on Saturday for a game against USF – before taking another week between games ahead of three games in just an eight day period.
If recent history shows any indication, things will be just fine for the Seminoles this week and the rest should not exist.
