Kendal Briles Was Intentional On Offense

Kendal Briles did something a little different with the offensive Saturday night. It was the first time I’ve seen him intentionally go slow, and I’m not talking late in the game.

There were times early in the game where the offense was allowing the play clock to run down before snapping the ball, particularly after they made a first down.

It’s not a valuable statistic but some people care about it. The Noles actually won the time of possession metric as they had the ball 30:49 compared to 29:11, but a chunk of that came on NC State’s final drive when the game was in garbage time.

I thought it was smart to do that as NC State ran 45 offensive plays in the first half.

Briles also had to make some big time adjustments in the game. NC State was selling out on every play to bring pressure which caused the FSU offense to look similar to the 2018 offense at times.

However, Briles was able to dial-up some plays and formations to take advantage of what NC State was trying to do. Tamorrion Terry was able to get loose on a couple of slants and his former high school teammate Pookie Wilson had a career game with four receptions and his first career touchdown.
