FSU football: 3 takeaways from ‘Noles loss against Virginia
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
I’m not one to call for a man’s job, but it’s time to make Jim Leavitt the defensive coordinator. This FSU defense just can’t cut it when it’s crunch time.
They have folded in the second half of EVERY single game and the true reason this FSU football team is 1-2 instead of 3-0 right now.
Why are earth are defensive ends dropping into coverage so much still? That’s stupid.
Why do opposing receivers catch the balls in the flats and FSU defensive backs get sealed off effortlessly it seems, but FSU receivers can never block opposing defensive backs?
That’s coaching and effort and Harlon Barnett is a defensive backs guy so that’s telling.
Willie Taggart has begun the process of playing younger players and holding some players accountable. It’s why junior wide receiver DJ Matthews didn’t make the trip to Virginia.
He sat senior defensive back Levonta Taylor last week against Louisiana-Monroe. Taylor played against Virginia and had a big interception Saturday night so maybe holding folk accountable does pay off?
It’s time to sit Dontavious Jackson and go with younger players. Jackson is a liability on defense and is all bark and no bite.
I saw him numerous times yapping to Virginia players after plays where he didn’t even make the tackle.
FSU must win against Louisville next week or I believe it’s possible this team could quit on this coaching staff. That’s why I believe it’s time to go to the young players and roll the dice between inexperience and passion.
