FSU football: Top 5 concerns going into 2019 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Penalties
We have harped on this the past few years until we are garnet in the face. FSU football has to clean up this area of their game.
They get penalized way too much, and it has cost them dearly in several games the past few years.
The scary part?
FSU football was dead last averaging 9.2 penalties per game in 2018. That was 110 penalties for 851 yards in just 12 games.
The good news is most of those penalties can be attributed to implementing a brand new offense and simply being undisciplined.
Willie Taggart’s teams have historically been heavily penalized in his first season at a new job. However, those penalties usually drop drastically in year two and that’s what FSU fans are banking on.
South Florida had 102 penalties in Willie Taggart’s first season in 2013. The second season saw that number decrease to 75 in 2014. They had 79 penalties in 2015 and 83 penalties in 2016.
So it’s reasonable to think FSU football will improve in this department in 2019.
