Why FSU Basketball home schedule this season is a fan’s snooze fest
By Jason Parker
FSU Basketball will face a home slate of games that includes the defending champs and several other tournament teams, but nothing until conference play.
It’s been nearly four months since the 2018-19 season ended for the FSU basketball team with a third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and a second straight edition of March Madness that ended with the Seminoles playing in the second weekend before being knocked out by Gonzaga.
In just under four months, the 2019-20 season will tip off for head coach Leonard Hamilton and a Seminoles team that loses leaders and stars like Terance Mann, Mfiondu Kabengele and role players like Phil Cofer who helped turn the garnet and gold into an annual member of the tournament party.
But, at least this season fans will get to watch plenty of exciting action for the FSU basketball team inside the Tucker Center with some powerhouse teams coming to town like…Chattanooga? North Florida? Chicago State?
Yes, those are some of the teams that the school announced are on the home slate of games for the Seminoles this coming season with the first home game of the season being November 14th when the Noles take on Western Carolina.
Now, I am going to support my alma mater and be proud of the Seminoles no matter what – but even one look at this schedule and I have to wonder if those who were behind making it were actually trying to get fans excited about the season that is coming up.
Yes, I have written in the past about how tough the upcoming schedule is going to be for a FSU basketball team that is going to be playing other teams that were in the NCAA Tournament last season like Florida, Tennessee, Purdue, VCU, Duke and the national champions from Virginia.
Yet, just one of those games will take place in Tallahassee this season as the Cavaliers are one of the teams from the ACC that the Seminoles play twice this season – as the rest of those games are either on the road or at neutral sites.
I’m not asking for every single game to be an amazing opponents and know that last season’s home slate include the Gators, Boilermakers, Blue Devils and other teams who danced in the spring – but this season’s slate, both non-conference and ACC play, seems like one that was mailed in way too quickly.
