Run Game

This is an area I thought would surely be  a strength in 2018 but the first game of the season should have been foreshadowing.

The Noles averaged a measly 2.79 per rush which is the lowest since 2011 when the Noles averaged 3.34 yards per carry.

It was mostly a combination of two things. The offensive line getting whipped and the running backs not reading their blocks correctly and getting bottled up for little gain.

However, I think it’s fair to say the running backs were actually surprised they had a running lane when it actually happened. Here’s a prime example with Cam Akers:

A 18 wheeler could have been driven through that hole but Akers was tackled for minimal gain. The Noles were made one dimensional because they either couldn’t run the ball or were behind so much they had to pass to try and move the chains.

This is a huge area that needs to improve since Kendal Briles places great emphasis on the run game.
