Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

At this point last week, there were plenty of people associated with the FSU baseball fan base and support group that was freaking the heck out after the Seminoles dropped 12 of their last 18 games and were looking like a team that might not make it to the postseason for the first time in over four decades (man, that sounds familiar).

But, wouldn’t you know it – the Noles actually remembered how to play the game like everyone thought they could and not only got part of the monkey off their backs, but did so against a ranked team in a series that now has some wondering what FSU baseball team is going to show up the rest of the season.

The road back to the postseason continues this weekend against an ACC foe that at one time was arguably the best team in the conference but now is looking like a team the Noles, on paper, should beat.

Here’s our preview of this weekend’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

When the Seminoles took the field last weekend against No. 16 ranked Clemson, there were some wondering if FSU baseball would even get a victory with the way they had been playing of late – but by the end of the weekend, all of those frowns would have temporarily turned upside down.

Friday night, the Seminoles jumped on the board with a three run homer from Drew Mendoza and two more runs in the seventh inning that were more than enough for Drew Parrish as he pitched eight shutout innings – and while Clemson made it interesting, the Noles held on for the 6-2 win.

Saturday, the bats were alive for FSU baseball as the Seminoles scored 12 unanswered runs – including four homers as a team and two alone by J.C. Flowers – as part of a 16-2 victory. Sunday would be a nail bitter as the Seminoles got four runs in the second inning, including another Mendoza homer, but needed a run each in the fourth and seventh innings to get the 6-4 win.

Opponent Preview

This weekend, the Seminoles head to the commonwealth for a three game battle with the Virginia Cavaliers – a team just four years removed from winning the College World Series but missed the postseason last year and is not looking like they will be heading back baring a late season charge.

This season, the Wahoos come into the weekend with a 22-16 record after beating Radford on Tuesday following a three game sweep at the hands of Miami last weekend to break a five game winnign streak.

Interesting Fact

Last weekend’s three game sweep for FSU baseball was just the fifth in conference play since the start of the 2016 season – and the series that followed each one of those has been a mixed bag of results for the Seminoles.

After sweeping Georgia Tech and Notre Dame in 2016, the Noles took two of three from Pittsburgh and lost two out of three to Clemson after each respective series. After sweeping the Fighting Irish the following season, they were promptly swept by North Carolina.
