FSU football will enter the 2019 season with a lot to prove after its worse season in over 40 seasons. Nevertheless, oddsmakers like them in their 2019 opener.

Despite FSU football turning in a season that showed a program in disarray on the field it still is one of the most talented programs in the country.

That’s despite over 53 percent of blue chip recruits signed from 2015-17 either not contributing or no longer being part of the program.

It’ll be a make or break season for Willie Taggart and his newly assembled staff. Most notably,
offensive coordinator Kendall Briles and offensive line coach Randy Clements.

The two will be tasked with resurrecting an offense that’s been relatively dormant since the 2016 season.

They’ll be facing a Boise State defense that finished one spot behind FSU in 2018 according to S&P advanced metrics. However, Boise State will have a new defensive coordinator as their previous coach left for Oregon.

Boise announced they would hire from within with linebackers coach Jeff Schmedding taking over that role.

Thoughts

The Noles will play Boise State in Jacksonville, so technically it’ll be a neutral site game but their should definitely be a home crowd advantage for the Noles.

Typically, home field advantage accounts for three points from oddsmakers so the Noles would be favored near a touchdown if they were playing in Doak Campbell Stadium.

Of course the Noles were near touchdown favorites in their opener against Virginia Tech last year and got embarrassed 24-3 and that was with Virginia Tech missing tons of players on their defense.

The FSU offense should be more stable in 2019 with James Blackman and their second year in a spread/up tempo style offense. It’s all going to depend on the offensive line and how well they play for the most part.

If they can open running lanes and give Blackman time to throw they could be lethal. If not, we could see a similar product to the 2018 version.
