Former Nole great Lamarcus Joyner has made the best of his time in the NFL and cashes in on his second multi-year contract.
Lamarcus Joyner came back and completed his senior season at FSU in 2014 and lead them to the inaugural College Football Playoff along with Jameis Winston.
That year proved valuable as Joyner showcased his ability to play cornerback after patrolling the secondary primarily at safety the previous three seasons.
His play got his drafted in the second round by the then St. Louis Rams. It was a huge deal because Joyner isn’t the ideal height for an NFL safety at 5’8″.
However, what he lacked in height he made up with long arms, a 37″ vertical and outstanding speed at 4.53 in the forty yard dash.
His rookie deal was for four years at $5,030,178 which he completed prior to the 2018 season. Joyner’s play was good enough for the Rams to franchise tag him for the 2018 season for a total of $11,287,000.
So you’ve read that right. Lamarcus Joyner has already earned over $16,000,000 in his first five years in the NFL at 28 years old.
Wait, it gets better as Joyner signed with the Oakland Raiders as an unrestricted free agent Tuesday.

This is awesome news for one of the best Noles to wear garnet and gold in recent years. Here’s how Joyner’s deal will break down courtesy of OvertheCap.com.
He’ll receive $21.3 million in guarantees with $16.7 million guaranteed at signing. The good news is it’s possible Joyner could complete this contract as he’ll only be 33-year-old when this contract with the Raiders expires.
Joyner just helped lead the Los Angeles Rams to their first SuperBowl in over a decade where they fell to the New England Patriots last month.
He’s another example of why FSU football is known as “DBU” as he’s one of many in the NFL still making a lot of money.
