Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

For the second straight season, a ACC weekend series for the FSU baseball team was not the most important thing about the three game slate – as the outcome of the game and the series was overshadowed by the program’s long time head coach putting himself in exclusive company not just in college baseball, but college sports as a whole.

Now, with Mike Martin’s latest individual milestone in the rearview mirror, the Seminoles can look forward after winning their opening ACC series for the eighth time in the last nine seasons despite looking pretty bad in the game they lost and needing extra innings magic to take one of the wins.

Now, FSU baseball heads back on the road to play what will become their first road game of the season against a hated rival who has been their kryptonite the past decade or more on the diamond.

Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

FSU baseball kicked things off in conference play with a three game slate against the Virginia Tech Hokies that was condensed down to two days thanks to weather. The action started Friday night as the Hokies held an 8-6 lead in the 10th inning until J.C. Flowers became the hero with a three run double to give the Noles the 9-8 comeback win.

On Saturday, it was hot and cold for the Seminoles as they coudn’t do anything right in the first game of the double hitter as Virginia Tech pitchers combined to throw a one hitter and shut out the Noles 6-0.

In game two, Cooper Swanson got things started with a solo homer in the first inning before the Hokies tied the game at two – a game that would remain tied until FSU baseball scored three runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings that included a homer from Flowers in the 5-2 victory that gave Martin his 2,000th career victory.

Opponent Preview

The Seminoles will take the field against the team they have played the second most number of times in program history, the hated rival Florida Gators. After starting off the season 3-3 that included three straight losses to USF, UNF and Miami, Florida has won 10 of their last 12 games that included a sweep of Yale last weekend at home.

So far this season, the 12-5 Gators have lost all of their games against teams from the state of Florida – dropping the afore mentioned games in February as well as a single game against UCF and splitting their two game series with Florida Gulf Coast. The Noles and Gators will meet again March 26th in Jacksonville and April 9th in Tallahassee.

Interesting Fact

For the Seminoles on this year’s roster, they have not seen much success when it comes to the Noles playing in Gainesville over their lifetimes.
