Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming games scheduled for play during the 2018-19 season.

For the FSU basketball team, an important lesson in life – both in sports and the real world – was learned this week in their two games against ACC foes: sometimes, it may not always be pretty and sexy…but a win is a win, and you take one wherever you can get it.

Such was the case for a Seminoles team that faced two foes they should not have had nearly as much trouble with, but made the fans sweat it out until the final whistle to make sure that they had come out on top – games that the Noles would have likely lost in previous seasons, but have started to figure out how to not play down to their competition.

Now, FSU basketball sit themselves just one win on Tuesday night away from not having to make a trip to the ACC tournament for an additional day ahead of what should be the toughest stretch of the season before the NCAA tournament.

Here’s our recap of last week’s game action and a preview of what’s ahead for the Seminoles.

Last Week Recap

The Seminoles had a quick turnaround following a weekend loss when they hosted Notre Dame on Monday – and the Fighting Irish had plenty of fight in them as they led by as many as 10 points in the first half. The Noles tied it up at the half and clamped down on defense in the second, which along with a team high 13 points from Devin Vassell paced them to a 68-61 win.

On Saturday, FSU basketball hosted a N.C. State team without outside hopes of a double bye. Despite holding the Wolfpack to under 27 percent shooting in the first half, the Seminoles couldn’t shake them for most of the game but did enough to avoid the upset with 16 points from Mfiondu Kabengele and 15 from M.J. Walker to get the 78-73 victory.

Opponent Preview

For the Seminoles, the biggest game of the season may just be on Tuesday when they host Virginia Tech in the home finale – knowing that a win over the Hokies will clinch a double by in the ACC Tournament while a loss would mean the Noles would get a first round bye, but have to play starting Wednesday instead of Thursday.

The Hokies enter the week with a 22-6 record on the season and half won four of their last five games, including an upset victory over Duke in their only game last week while the Blue Devils were playing without their best players, Zion Williamson.

On Saturday, the Seminoles will close out the regular season on the road with a showdown against Wake Forest – a team FSU basketball beat earlier this season as the Noles look to sweep all four opponents from the ACC that they played twice this year.

The Demon Deacons enter the week with an 11-17 record and half lost nine of their last 12 games, including a blowout loss to Syracuse this past weekend. Wake Forest will hit the road on Tuesday to take on Duke before hosting the Seminoles in their regular season finale.

Interesting Fact

In the five ACC tournaments under the current format, FSU basketball has only played in the opening round one time – during the 2016 tournament as the 11th seed, winning their first round game before losing in the second round to Virginia Tech.
