Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming games scheduled for play during the 2018-19 season.

After a month of January that included a stretch of games that the FSU basketball team would like to forget, the Seminoles have enjoyed a start to the month of February that not only has Leonard Hamilton’s team brimming with more confidence, but also has them thinking about a potentially deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

This past week, the Noles not only did something they had never done before in the history of the program for one game, but they also got a resume win in the second that helps make up for the string of ugly losses that took place earlier in the season.

Now, the Seminoles head back into action for two games this week against teams that are looking up at FSU basketball in the standings – games the Noles should not have a problem winning, but we have all seen this story play out before so they can’t take anything for granted.

Here’s our recap of last week’s game action and a preview of what’s ahead for the Seminoles.

Last Week Recap

Last Tuesday, FSU basketball was on the road to take on a Syracuse Orange team that they had never beaten before inside the Carrier Dome in the regular season. Things started great for the Noles as they had a 20 point lead in the first half – before the Orange cut it to eight heading into the break.

In the second half, Syracuse got within two points before the Seminoles woke up and forged ahead with a dominating performance – getting 22 points from Terance Mann and 18 from Mfiondu Kabengele for the 80-62 victory.

On Saturday, the Seminoles returned home to face No. 16 Louisville and started colder than ice by hitting just one of their first 11 shots. FSU basketball would take the lead before a 14-2 run from the Cardinals gave them a six-point lead at the break.

The back and forth in the second half saw the Seminoles tie the game on a M.J. Walker steal and basket before a Phil Cofer miss sent the game to overtime. In the extra basketball, the Noles scored the first eight points and held off the Cards for a 80-75 win behind 22 points from Kanegele and 20 from Mann.

Opponent Preview

Wednesday night, the Seminoles get back inside the Tucker Center for a showdown with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Entering this game, the Deacs are the only ACC team without double digit wins on the season (9-13 record) and had lost eight of their previous nine games before beating Pittsburgh last weekend.

On Saturday, it’s off to the ATL and a showdown with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets – who the Noles beat 59-49 just over a week ago inside the Tucker Center. The men in blue and gold enter the game with a (record) record on the season and have lost (number) of their last (number) games and take on Virginia Tech on the road this coming Wednesday.

Interesting Fact

With a victory over Wake Forest on Wednesday, the Seminoles will set themselves up to do something the program hasn’t been able to do since the ACC went to the current scheduling format of playing 10 teams one time and two games each against the remaining four teams in 2013-14.

Since that point, the Noles have never swept the four teams they play twice in a season. Already this year, FSU basketball has swept their two games against Miami while also beating Georgia Tech and Clemson in their first meetings. The Noles will meet the Yellow Jackets on Saturday while meeting the Tigers on Tuesday, February 19th and ending the year at Wake on March 9th.
