Coaching Hires

Willie Taggart lost the offensive coordinator he brought in his first season in Walt Bell. However, it more than likely was addition by subtraction as he upgraded that position in numerous ways with the hiring of offensive coordinator Kendal Briles.

He’s never averaged under 34 points as an offensive coordinator and his offensive system is what Willie Taggart borrowed a lot of his concepts from for the Gulf Coast Offense.

Briles is an instant upgrade when it comes to organization and coordination of an offense since it’s a system he’s been coaching in for over a decade.

He’s also an upgrade when it comes to recruiting as Walt Bell was ultimately a non-factor there for the most part.

Willie Taggart was also able to reel in former FSU wide receiver Ron Dugans a couple of weeks ago.

Dugan is a well-respected wide receiver coach who played in the NFL and has had more receivers drafted in the past five years than FSU has had over the last decade.

He’s also an excellent recruiter with a proven track record in identifying and landing blue chip wide receivers.

The coaching staff definitely got an upgrade with the addition of these two coaches and one more could be on the way in Randy Clements.
