FSU Basketball Weekly Preview: January 29th-Feburary 3rd
By Jason Parker
Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming games scheduled for play during the 2018-19 season.
What a difference a week can make – and if you don’t believe me, just go ask head coach Leonard Hamilton and the FSU basketball team. It was just one week ago that the sky was falling on the Seminoles after dropping two straight games on the road against teams that they had no business losing to.
This week, it’s all rainbows and unicorns after the Noles won two straight games – and while the level of competition might not have been among the top teams in the ACC, it was games that they needed to win to get momentum back on their side heading into the final two thirds of the conference schedule.
Now, FSU basketball has a light workweek with just one game as they face a team they are battling with in the middle of the conference standings at this point with every game counting toward possible byes in the ACC tournament come March.

Here’s our recap of last week’s game action and a preview of what’s ahead for the Seminoles.
Last Week Recap
One week ago, the action started inside the Tucker Center when the Seminoles took on a Clemson Tigers team who also had experienced the joy of losing to teams like Duke and Virginia as the Noles had as well.
The first half looked like a replay of the week before as the Tigers jumped out to a six point lead, but FSU basketball woke up in the second half and pushed out to a big lead before settling in for the 77-68 win. Mfiondu Kabengele continued his monster year and led the Seminoles with 17 points while David Nichols added 16 points.
Sunday night, it was down to the 305 as the Seminoles faced the rival Miami Hurricanes for the second time this season. The Noles had a comfortable lead in the first half before Miami cut it to three points late – but Florida State went on a 15-1 run and it wasn’t close after that as M.J. Walker nailed six three pointers as part of his game high 22 points and the 78-66 win for the Noles.
Opponent Preview
FSU basketball returns to the Tucker Center on Saturday for an afternoon battle with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a team the Noles are tied with in the ACC standings entering the week. At 11-9 on the year, Georgia Tech has lost four of their last six games that included a setback last weekend against Duke. The Yellow Jackets host North Carolina on Tuesday night.
Interesting Fact
With Sunday’s win over the Hurricanes, the Seminoles finished the season with a clean sweep of the four opponents from the Sunshine State they faced – Florida, North Florida and two games against Miami.
It’s just the third time in the last 13 seasons that the Seminoles have been able to accomplish that feat. In 2006-07, FSU basketball defeated the Gators along with Stetson and their two games against the ‘Canes while the 2016-17 season saw the Noles beat Florida along with both games against Miami along with their win over Florida Gulf Coast in the NCAA Tournament.
