FSU football will have to overcome one of the best defensive coordinators in the country a bit longer now.

FSU football has routinely gone up against some of the best defenses in the country the past few years. One of those teams has always been Clemson with defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

FSU fans have been anticipating Venables getting a promotion to a head coaching job over the last couple of years.

That’s normally the case with excellent coordinators as we’ve seen with Will Muschamp and Kirby Smart.

However, Venables seems to like it at Clemson and they continue to throw boatloads of money to keep him there as defensive coordinator.

He was already one of the highest paid assistants in the nation, but Clemson made him the highest paid coordinator in the nation on Wednesday.

A five-year 11.6 million dollar contract!

That’s what I’m saying!

That is hilarious and more on that can be found in the video below:

Thoughts

That’s a ridiculous amount of money but it shows Clemson’s commitment to winning. How is this going to impact FSU Football?

Well, it’s going to be interesting to see how Willie Taggart’s offense matches up against Brent Venables. The former regime had success running against Clemson’s defenses and Taggart’s offense is built around the run.

Where Clemson makes their money is getting offenses in predictable third and long situations while getting after the quarterback.

They will give up chunk plays because of their aggressiveness and teams will need to capitalize on those opportunities while their own defenses keep their offense in check.

The latter happened a few times last year as Clemson struggled at times offensively. The Noles are currently 10 point underdogs against Clemson at home this year.

We’ll see if that line has changed by the time the game rolls around.
