FSU football will have a number of impact players in all three phases of the game in 2018.

FSU football is accustomed to players making the All-ACC teams since joining the league in the early 90’s.

In fact, even in down years like 2017 the Noles had six players to make the All-ACC squad. The 2016 squad saw 11 players selected for All-ACC honors according to USA Today.

However, expectations for 2018 are higher with a new coaching regime and a number of key players returning.

One website predicts the Noles will have 11 players recognized as All-ACC performers for the 2018 season.

Athlon Sports gives their predictions:

  • Cam Akers-First Team Offense
  • Jacques Patrick-Honorable Mention
  • Nyqwan Murray-Second Team Offense
  • Alec Eberle-Third Team Offense
  • Landon Dickerson-Honorable Mention
  • Brian Burns-Third Team Defense
  • DeMarcus Christmas-Second Team Defense
  • Levonta Taylor-First Team Defense
  • Stanford Samuels-Honorable Mention
  • Ricky Aguayo-First Team Specialists
  • DJ Matthews-Second Team Specialists

Thoughts

Akers, Eberle and Aguayo were named to the official All-ACC teams last season and I thought Levonta Taylor should have been recognized instead of Tarvarus McFadden.

I would expect all four of these players to be recognized in 2018. DeMarcus Christmas should also be a lock to appear provided he’s healthy all season.

Brian Burns is poised to have a breakout season in his money year with FSU football. He should be a lot stronger and able to be on the field for more snaps instead of obvious passing situations.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Stanford Samuels on the list this year as he’s an excellent player with a year of experience under his belt now.

Ricky Aguayo may not have as many opportunities to show his skills in 2018 based on the information we discussed here. Willie Taggart’s propensity to not settle for field goals could loom here.

Also, it would not shock me to see DJ Matthews get recognized as a punt returner or wide receiver. He’s electric with the ball in his hands and should flourish in Taggart’s offense.

What do you think about the players named on the list?
