FSU baseball coach Mike Martin reaches the magical 1,976 win mark for most all time.

Mike Martin had to wait a week to reach the monumental milestone of 1,976 wins, but he got it in a 3-2 13 inning win against the No. 10 Clemson Tigers.

First off, hats off to the Noles pitching staff as they were outstanding Friday night. Drew Parrish went 6.1 innings and CJ Van Eyk finished the final 6.1 innings to earn the win.

They scattered six hits over 13 innings and struck out 15 batters

The Noles took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh with Clemson able to scratch across a run in the bottom of the frame. Clemson added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie things at 2-2.

However, a solo home run by Steven Wells in top of the 13th put the Noles up 3-2. The Clemson Tigers would not go away quietly as they were able to get the tying run on second base with just one out.

Van Eyk was able to force a pop up for the second out and fly out to right field to garner the third and final out.

The FSU offense had 15 hits and left 15 runners on base which has been a common theme the past two seasons.

Thoughts

It would have been much better to get this win at home last week against rival Miami, but one can’t be choosy in this once in a lifetime instance.

Mike Martin is a model of consistency and is arguably the greatest college baseball coach of all time despite never winning a national championship. To put it in perspective, Martin reached 1,975 wins in 249 fewer games than the late Augie Garrido.

His FSU teams have won 40 games for 40 consecutive seasons and reached the College World Series 16 times.
