Willie Taggart: FSU wide receivers could do a lot of damage
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU head coach Willie Taggart spoke with the media prior to Friday’s practice.
FSU football spring practice continues to shape and mold the team to what it’ll show at FSU’s spring game in two weeks.
Willie Taggart spoke with the media prior to Friday’s practice and touched on a variety of subjects.
One of the first things he was asked about was practicing in the rain and why they are trying to get as many reps as possible for their players.
The entire video can be seen below:
The thing that stood out to me the most was Willie Taggart talking about the FSU wide receivers. He was asked what it could be like to have big and physical receivers like Keith Gavin and Tamorrion Terry in his offense and Taggart wasted no time cracking a smile.
“It could be a big asset for us…those guys are strong and physical and when you have strong, tall physical receivers that can catch the ball. They can do a lot of damage for you. Both of those guys are really talented and having a good spring.”
Taggart said Tamorrion Terry is a player that’s scored a touchdown in almost every practice and stood out to him very early going all the way back to FSU’s bowl practices.
A look at Terry at practice Friday morning is below. The kid has been putting in some serious work as that’s a smooth route right there.
Thoughts
The wide receiver group is thin on depth, but there’s no question they could make a lot of noise in Willie Taggart’s offense. They are absolutely huge:
- George Campbell-6’4″ 205 lbs
- Keith Gavin-6’3″ 217 lbs
- Tamorrion Terry-6’4″ 197 lbs
- Tre McKitty-6’5″ 241
Then of course there’s the smaller slot receivers that can juke defenders out of their shoes with DJ Matthews and Nyqwan Murray.
Not only will their size be an asset in the passing game, but it’ll help in Taggart’s run game too. Those big wide receivers should be able to rag doll opposing defensive backs and allow playmakers to get out on the edge in space.
The passing screen game will be impacted as well with these guys being able to set up blocks for the receiver that catches the pass.
