FSU football players will have to work if they want to wear a single digit jersey this season – and one non-relevant program thinks they invented the idea.

If you are watching the FSU football team take part in spring drills or plan on attending the 2018 addition of the spring game on April 14th, you will notice one big thing with the Seminoles team – no player will be wearing single digit number jerseys this spring as part of a decision from new head coach Willie Taggart.

No James Blackman in No. 1, no Cam Akers in No. 3 and no Stanford Samuels III in No. 8 – all the players are going to have to work if they want a single number to wear, something Taggart said is an honor that has to be earned as part of his goal to turn the Noles around from last season’s 7-6 record.

It’s an idea that got national attention when Taggart announced it before the first FSU football spring practice – but one school that some people didn’t even know still had a football squad is crying foul and claiming they thought of it first.

Temple football head coach Geoff Collins, who could never beat the Seminoles during his time as an assistant at Georgia Tech, Alabama or Florida, took to social media along with several members of his team to act like they are the only team to ever use the motivation tool.

Let us all get one thing clear here – and I hope the people up in Philly are listening to this one: no one is going to copy anything from a program that has six winning campaigns in the last 27 seasons and was close to dropping the program all together after being kicked out by the Big East for being beyond horrendous. You aren’t the first team to do this, so stop it.

It will be interesting to see which players do end up getting their single number jerseys back come the fall and which new FSU football numbers may be handed out. One thing is for certain: they have a better chance of being worn in a championship game for the Noles than they do for any single number being rocked by Temple players.
