FSU Basketball not being ranked in polls this week is absurd
By Jason Parker
FSU basketball again found themselves out of the polls this week – and the teams that jumped over them will have to scratching your head.
After a 20 game stretch to the start of last season that saw the FSU basketball team have an 18-2 record with a ranking of No. 6 nationally, some may find some “disappointment” in the fact that the Seminoles are ONLY 14-5 through the first 19 games of this season – with their 20th game coming Wednesday night against Georgia Tech.
What might be even more disappointing for those in garnet and gold is that the Seminoles find themselves unranked for the second straight week. It came after spending just over a calendar month with a number by their name – and was caused by going 4-4 over that same span.
Having gone 5-5 in their last 10 games is not something that should keep FSU basketball as one of the top ranked teams in the country, but their resume should keep a number by their name – particularly when you look at teams that are ahead of them.
The obvious team, if you are a Seminoles fan, is the Florida Gators. You might remember that the Noles went down to Gainesville on December 4th and beat the living heck out of the then fight ranked Gators 83-66. It was the first of several signature wins so far this season, including a win over ranked North Carolina earlier this month.
One look at the AP poll this week sees the 16-4 Tar Heels coming in this week at No. 10, which is not something to beef too much about since they are the defending champs. But one look down at the No. 20 spot shows those orange and blue people sitting their with an identical 14-5 record as FSU basketball.
How did Florida get back into the polls this week for the first time in over a month? Well, they beat a 13-6 Arkansas team and a Kentucky team on the road – granted, a nice win on paper until you see the Wildcats lost earlier in the week to a now 13-7 South Carolina team and are now out of the polls.

Both the Gators and Seminoles have identical record and an equal number of wins (two) over teams ranked this week. Once again, I’m not saying the Noles are a top 10 team by any means – but with two ranked wins and a close loss on the road against the current No. 4 team in Duke, Florida State deserves at least a number by their name.
