However, I thought the quick interview below featuring Walt Bell gave a quick synopsis about his philosophy straight from the horse’s mouth.
Thoughts
Bell says his offenses are closest to what North Carolina’s Larry Fedora brings to the table. He says he plays much faster than Fedora but his offense is still built around the run game, as is Willie Taggart’s Gulf Coast offense.
That’s what makes this pairing such a great fit as both Bell and Taggart want to go fast and build the offense off the run game.
The biggest thing I took away is Bell wants to keep things as simple as possible for the quarterback. It’s about giving the quarterback plays that allow them to take advantage of certain matchups on the field.
FSU will be the more talented team over 90 percent of the time, let the more talented players do what they do in space.
Unlike the previous regime who seemed to force the quarterback to process information like he’s in the NFL. That resulted in inexperienced quarterbacks holding the ball too long and getting destroyed in the pocket.
A college’s coaches job is to win games in college, not get them ready to play against NFL style defenses. This means Taggart’s offense should be more efficient when you don’t have a Jameis Winston under center.
