No. 4 – October 19, 2013 at Clemson (W 51-14)

The hopes for FSU football entering the 2013 season were maybe another ACC title and BCS bowl game like the year before, but many didn’t think that they would be ranked in the top five when they traveled to face their new rival in the ACC in what many think was the biggest conference game in history.

The third ranked Tigers had the experienced quarterback while the Noles were starting a redshirt freshman – a decent amount of people thought this would be the end of the line for the unbeaten record.

On the first play of the game, it looked like things would be interesting when Florida State forced a fumble that would be turned into a Jameis Winston to Kelvin Benjamin touchdown pass just a few plays later. Thanks to a Lamarcus Joyner strip that Mario Edwards Jr. rumbled in for a score, the Noles were up 17-0 before the first quarter ended and Death Valley was quiet except for those in Garnet and Gold. Clemson would get a touchdown, but the Seminoles added a Winston to Rashad Green long score and a field goal to take a 27-7 lead into the locker room.

The second half wasn’t much different as FSU football took the opening kickoff and marched down field, where Winston – who finished the night with 444 yards passing to just 203 for Taji Boyd – found Greene again for the score. Jameis would add a touchdown run before the end of the third quarter and the route was on while fans in orange were filing out.

A Devonta Freeman score and another field goal put over 50 on the board while the defense put together four sacks and two interceptions against the Tigers offense. It was at this point that the rest of the nation – as well as many FSU football fans – started to realize that this Seminoles team was going to be one sticking around this season.
