The perception Jimbo Fisher’s offense sucks because of the results of the 2017 season is a joke.

I’m aware the FSU football offense hasn’t scored 30 points all season. Also, I’m aware the offense ranks No. 99 in yards per play and No. 120 in total offense.

All I’ve read on social media from fans and others is criticism regarding Fisher’s offense.

The offense is ranked No. 112 according to S&P rankings, so yes, it’s easy to come to the conclusion Jimbo Fisher’s offense sucks nowadays.

However, let’s take a look at the FSU offense and where they ranked last season with a redshirt freshman quarterback, suspect offensive line and tiny receivers:

  • No. 2 S&P Ranking(against eight top 30 defenses)
  • Averaged 35.1 ppg (No. 31 overall)
  • 6.45 ypp (No. 23) and higher than Clemson with Deshaun Watson (No. 34).
  • No. 1 redzone offense overall and scored touchdowns 77.19 percent of the time (No. 3)
  • No. 7 in long plays from scrimmage

Thoughts

Jimbo Fisher didn’t forget how to coach offense ladies and gentlemen. Does he need to improve on deciding to go for it on fourth down opposed to punting or field goals?

Absolutely.

However, his offense does NOT require a Jamies Winston to be effective despite the agenda some people want to push.

So what’s wrong with the offense you ask? He’s playing a true freshman quarterback that didn’t early enroll. A true freshman quarterback that’s not dinking and dunking, but throwing vertically and averaging around 24 passes per game.

That inexperience and injuries to Auden Tate, Keith Gavin and Landon Dickerson coupled with playing seven defenses in the top 60 will cause an offense to regress significantly.

Jimbo’s offense doesn’t suck. The rushing attack as been great considering FSU has no consistent passing game.

How many times have you seen receivers be wide open to either drop the pass or Blackman miss them? There have been tons of plays to be made, but ultimately it’s up to the young quarterback to make the plays and throw to the open receiver.

It also doesn’t help Blackman hasn’t been able to form chemistry with Tate and Gavin due to them missing practice due to injuries.

Blackman is essentially learning on the fly. Have you ever built a house? If not, if you built a house learning how to do it on the fly would trust it would pass inspection?

That’s basically what James Blackman is trying to do against the No. 2 toughest schedule in the country.

The biggest difference between last year and now is Deondre Francois had a year to build a couple of houses before it counted in his redshirt season.

It’s a novel idea to think you could do something better if you’ve had a few trial runs first huh?
