FSU football lost to Alabama last week, but many still believe they are a good team that will win a ton of games.

FSU football has had a crazy week with the loss of Deondre Francois, the moving of the game from 7 p.m. to 12:15 p.m. and a category five hurricane with the state of Florida in its cross hairs.

The fan base seems to be excited about the prospect of starting a true freshman quarterback for the first time in the Jimbo Fisher era.

James Blackman has tons of potential, and the Louisiana Monroe game will be a good way to ease him into college football real game experience.

FSU football still has one of the most talented rosters in the nation, and we wrote why they’ll still be able to win a lot of game below.

However, we were not the only still optimistic about the FSU football season. Former rival coach Steve Spurrier still has faith in the ‘Noles.

He spoke on ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM regarding FSU’s  loss to Alabama, Deandre Francois and what it means for the Seminoles the rest of the season:

Spurrier

“These are the dangers of playing that early season game against a really, really good opponent, an opponent that has the best players in college football. So if FSU were to upset Alabama it would have been a wonderful day, and now they’re probably saying, ‘Why in the world are we going to go get beat up by these guys and get our quarterback knocked out of the game?’ So that’s the danger of it. But Jimbo’s [Fisher] a heck of a head coach and he’ll get the next kid ready to play and they do have an excellent defense, FSU. So I’ll look for them to be in practically every game. They’re not done. I don’t know who’s going to be favored over them the rest of the way unless it’s Clemson and maybe Louisville.”

Thoughts

FSU didn’t get ‘beat up’ but I understand the point he’s attempting to make. I think Spurrier is right. The FSU defense looks elite after one game, against an offense that will be one of the best in the nation.

We’ve mentioned how a number FSU opponents will be breaking in new quarterbacks, and that should help this FSU defense keep the ‘Noles in every game.

As long as they can avoid turnovers and excessive penalties, I think they can beat every team remaining on their schedule.
