Dalvin Cook feels Minnesota offense similar to Jimbo Fisher’s offense

Former FSU running back Dalvin Cook is ready to get going with the Minnesota Vikings.
Minnesota’s second round draft pick Dalvin Cook is ready to get the show on the road as players report to training camp.
Cook is looking to take the starting role in the backfield, but does have competition from veterans Latavius Murray and Jerick McKinnon.
However, Cook is ahead of the game because he’ll start with the rookies on Monday as veteran players will not begin until Wednesday.
We’ve noted the biggest thing Cook needs to improve upon his pass blocking, and that will be a huge focus since it’s key in Cook staying on the field for three downs.

It’s also one of the biggest keys to him winning the starting role. If Cook does win the starting role, he should feel right at home since he told ESPN the Vikings offense similar to what Jimbo Fisher ran at Florida State.
“We’re running the same thing [as at Florida State], outside zone, inside zone, utilizing me catching the football, just getting the ball in my hands as many ways as possible,” Cook said.
Cook also gave his thoughts on trying to replace Vikings great Adrian Peterson courtesy of ESPN.
“He’s a future Hall of Famer, this is my first year in the NFL, I ain’t close to him so I can’t compare myself to him at all, he’s going down as one of the greatest backs in history, I just gotta go out there and work,” Cook said.
Thoughts
Of course Cook is modest and rightfully pays respect to what Adrian Peterson accomplished in Minnesota.
Cook is a great talent in his own right and should have been drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft.
He’s excellent at finding some cutback lanes on zone runs and improved every year as a receiver in Fisher’s offense. The latter bodes well in him staying on the field on passing downs provided he gets the protections down.

The familiarity should allow Cook to put a bit more emphasis on picking up pass protection. If he gets that down, Vikings fan will be in for an exciting season with Cook in the backfield.
