FSU Football: Website Has Cam Akers Winning Heisman Trophy in 2017
By Jason Parker
FSU football has plenty of expectations for the career of Cam Akers in Tallahassee – but one expert seems to think he will bring home hardware this year.
Of all the issues surrounding the FSU football team this coming season, maybe the biggest question is what is going to happen with five star recruit and possibly starting running back Cam Akers. The Mississippi native has plenty of people believing he will be just as good as the man he will likely replace, Dalvin Cook – and might be even better.
Akers is dealing with plenty of expectations – and he hasn’t even taken a snap in a live football game yet. While he is expected to be the next great running back, especially taking over for a man who set single season and career records for the Seminoles, one website might have even taken it a step further.
CBSSports.com posted a recent article from college football writer Ben Kercheval where he posted the five bold predictions for the upcoming year. What was number one? Well, that a FSU football player will be heading to New York City and winning the Heisman Trophy – and it will be someone who as of right now still has no career stat line:
"There are some Heisman boxes Akers checks off, which leaves him some room to utilize his God-given gifts and maybe even have a down week or two.The Alabama game looks like a bad matchup on paper, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Akers was kept under wraps. But the Heisman isn’t won in September (unless you’re Lamar Jackson). If Florida State is a better team in November when it plays Clemson and Florida — on the road, no less — Akers will have a real shot at this."
Okay, I’m going to need Ben to take a step back and take a second. Yes, Akers has the potential to be a great running back when its all said and done. But can we at least let him, oh I don’t know, ACTUALLY PLAY A GAME FIRST BEFORE WE START PUTTING CRAZY EXPECTATIONS ON HIM SO QUICKLY?

FSU football has had three players bring home the trophy as the top player in college football – and while it would be great to have a fourth this season. To say it will be Cam Akers is, yes, a bold prediction – and one that shows just how crazy that writer might be. I want to see how Akers does in the opener and weeks later against teams like Miami and N.C. State before the conversation even starts about a trip to the Big Apple.
