FSU baseball faced Jacksonville University for the third time this season. After two one-run wins earlier in the season, FSU dominated game three.

FSU baseball came up with two dramatic wins against Jacksonville University earlier this season. In Tuesday night’s series finale there wasn’t much drama as FSU came away with a dominant 21-2 win. With FSU so far out in front and well on our way to a four hour game, both coaches agreed to end the game after the top of the eighth.

The victory completed the sweep of JU and brought FSU’s record to 32-18 on the season. FSU’s winning streak is at five games as they have now wrapped up non-conference play and have two big ACC series left to finish the ACC season, at home vs RPI number 11 Wake Forest and at RPI number six Louisville.

Game Recap

Jacksonville jumped on FSU early in the first two meetings only to see their leads slip away both times. On Tuesday FSU were the ones that got ahead early, and they made sure JU couldn’t give them a taste of their own medicine. FSU scored in all but one inning on their way to blasting JU by a score of 21-2

The Noles took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Jackson Lueck ground out and a Quincy Nieporte single. FSU would add runs in the third and fourth inning to stretch the lead to 4-0.

The fifth inning was a fun one for FSU baseball. Protecting a 4-1 lead, Klayton Kwiatkowski was dealing with a bases loaded no outs jam, that’s when J.C. Flowers got an incredible jump on a line drive up the middle making the catch and firing a strike to home plate retiring the runner and completing the double play.

The play was reviewed but the call was upheld, it was truly a remarkable play. FSU busted the game open in the bottom half of the inning with a six spot. The frame was highlighted by a two run absolute tank of a home run by Drew Mendoza to right field. JC Flowers, Taylor Walls and Jackson Lueck would also record RBI’s in the inning.

From there FSU poured it on. The Noles added two more in the sixth and NINE more in the seventh capped off by a Drew Mendoza grand slam that is still traveling. FSU performed well in the field as they committed no errors.

Will Zirzow got the start on the mound and finished with a line of 4 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 3 BB. Clayton Kwiatkowski was rewarded with the victory to improve to 2-0.

The Noles will look to carry their momentum into a big ACC series with RPI number 11 Wake Forest this weekend. Check in with us on Friday for our series preview.
