No. 3 – Beating Miami (the first time, not the second time, because, you see, it happened twice)

Feb. 1 was a crucial day for FSU fans.

Aside from it being National Signing Day (remember this?), it was also the date the Seminoles traveled to Coral Gables to face the Miami Hurricanes.

That was right after Leonard Hamilton’s team had lost two road games in a row, and questions began to surface about their ability to win road games. (Those questions, unfortunately, went unanswered all year.)

The Hurricanes were starting to hit their stride around the same time, and were favored to beat Florida State.

Well, that didn’t happen.

The Seminoles dominated, downing their rival 75-57 behind 15 Jonathan Isaac points and another 15 from Bacon. The second half was all Florida State, and the Canes could do little to stop the blowout. Fun game.

No. 2 – Turning Dunk City into Dunk Nation

Florida Gulf Coast was a popular first round upset pick among many pundits. The logic was reasonable – they had a great season, going 26-7 before the tourney, and FSU basketball struggled away from Tallahassee all year.

However, in an amusing turn of events, “Dunk City” struggled to deal with, of all things, Florida State’s athleticism. The final marker read 86-80, Seminoles.

The victory was FSU’s first tourney win since 2012, making the occasion all the more special.

And then, the trolling began!

Sorry, FGCU.

At least you have those beaches next to your dorm rooms to return to.
