Competition

This spring practice is a prime example of why its important to have multiple quarterbacks on the roster. Iron sharpens iron, competition breeds success and we could go on and on.

Sean Maquire is out for the spring which is allowing the young quarterbacks on the roster to get valuable repetitions.

The fact that Malik Henry and JJ Cosentino are at practice each day forces Deondre Francois to be the last one to leave practice each day.

If a player feels there is no competition for his job, it’s quite easy for him to take his foot off the gas. Relax, become complacent and not maximize his ability to lead a team with considerable talent on both sides of the ball.

That’s not championship football.

These young quarterbacks are forcing Maguire to take note that the job might not be his when he’s able to return. They will push him in his rehab (if he wants the job), and will force him to stay in the playbook even though he knows the playbook more extensively than any of the young guns.

Competition means the best players will push themselves to play.
