  • YPP: Yards Per Play, The number of yards a defense allows per play

The 2015 defense allowed 4.68 yards per play which was good for No. 10 in the nation. That’s not shabby considering there were several games where the FSU offense could do absolutely nothing, forcing the FSU defense to stay on the field for considerable amounts of plays.

Add in the “bend but not break” mentality and there you go.

The No. 1 team in the nation regarding yards per play was Boston College at 4.07. Michigan was No. 5 at 4.46 yards per play for perspective.

So when it comes to this metric, being in the top 10 would be considered elite in my opinion. If you want further comparison, the 2011 Alabama unit that won the National Championship held opponents to 3.85 yards per play.
