Quarterback
Winston is gone, and while FSU — and college football, for that matter — may never see another signal caller quite like him, the cupboard is far from bare in Tallahassee. Sure, a lot can change in spring ball and fall camp, but the safe money is on Sean Maguire to get the starting nod. And the good news is that Maguire, like some of the aforementioned offensive linemen, has seen action beyond just mop-up time.
Maguire is 1-0 as a starter, and that win didn’t come against The Citadel or Wake Forrest. It came in a primetime rivalry game against Clemson, the team that slaughtered Oklahoma in its bowl game behind the best total defense in the country. Did Maguire make some mistakes against the Tigers formidable defense? No doubt. But he also won the game, and made his biggest throw of the game — an absolute missile to Rashad Greene — in the fourth quarter when the ‘Noles needed it most.
Give Maguire credit: like Winston throughout much of the season, he did enough to win.
