Kareem Are– Offensive Lineman, #72
6-6, 325 lb.
With five seniors and four returning starters on the offensive line, venerable OL coach Rick Trickett will spend a good deal of fall camp developing the reserves. Simply put, the offensive line depth is quite untested for the ‘Noles. Hence, a key cog here is hulking JUCO transfer Kareem Are, who comes to FSU from Fort Scott Community College in Kansas.
Are’s size has him backing up fellow giant Josue Matias at left guard, but if a lineman goes down, it’ll be interesting to see if Trickett doesn’t try to convert him to whichever position is needed. You can tell that Fisher likes Are, who is extremely versatile, as well. Asked after a spring practice if 6-6 was too tall for a center, he was quick to point out that that’s only two inches taller than departed Rimington Award winner Bryan Stork.
It’s certainly helpful that Are was an early enrollee who participated in spring practice. He has two years of eligibility remaining, and after contributing this season, you can pretty much pencil him in as a starter for 2015.
