FSU Football put up the most points it has all season largely because of the performance of Deondre Francois against Wake Forest.

I’ve written time and time again this season the FSU football offense will go as Deondre Francois goes.

He was the No. 1 player on my list of FSU players that needed to make an impact against Wake Forest to get a victory.

Francois got off to a rough start, throwing off target to a  wide open Jacques Patrick in the flats on FSU’s first offensive play of the game. It’s a throw Francois has always struggled with, but to his credit he rebounded nicely after the first three possessions yielded 20 yards on 12 plays.

The offensive line gave him time to throw on the day and he wasn’t sacked for the second time this season. When given time, Francois can be a good college quarterback and he obliterated a weak Wake Forest defense just as he should.

His numbers would have been even more staggering had a huge bomb to Tamorrion Terry wasn’t called back for holding or if Keith Gavin didn’t fumble as it looked like he was going in for a touchdown.

Francois completed 73 percent of his passes for two touchdowns and 353 yards.

However, let’s not become results oriented just because they were in FSU’s  favor Saturday. Francois is still making several wrong reads per game leaving lots of free yards on the field.

The first rushing touchdown by

Cam Akers

was the wrong read but got the touchdown result FSU wanted.

Look at the top of the screen and there are three wide receivers and two defensive backs. It’s a numbers game in FSU’s favor and should be an automatic throw in that direction.

These are the types of mistakes that are masked against weak defenses like Wake Forest, but become difference makers against the better defenses FSU will face in the coming weeks.

Again, Francois had a ton of favorable results against Wake Forest, but is still leaving a lot on the table when it comes to the process of running the FSU offense at optimal levels.

He’ll face a huge challenge next week against the best defense he’ll face all year when Clemson comes to town. I can guarantee you if he doesn’t get the process right, the results will not be there like against Wake Forest.
