We wrote a couple of days ago that FSU defensive end Amaree Williams announced plans to enter the transfer portal. We also explained why it wasn’t really a loss, considering the former blue-chip recruit reclassifed out of high school, lacks production, and hasn’t physically matured yet.

That fact, and splitting time between tight end and defensive end, stunted his development at both positions. Williams made the move to defensive end in 2025, yet wasn’t an impact player. However, he had an opportunity to put himself in a position to be the guy at defensive end over the next year or two.

However, instead of competing, he chose to transfer to a place that’s just as bad, if not worse than FSU. He transferred to Mississippi State:

Mississippi State is where former FSU quarterback Luke Kromenhoek went after the 2024 season and rode the bench before hitting the transfer portal again to land at a non-Power Four school. They were 2-10 in 2024 and 5-8 in 2025, so what is he doing? Is it a money grab? Is it that he doesn’t like Tony White’s scheme? That can’t be the case because their defensive coordinator came from FSU and runs the same defense.

Some of the decisions that many of these young folks are making make no sense. It’s not like FSU is bringing in a ton of portal defensive ends. The one guy they added is essentially another Amaree Williams.

However, tha'ts the biggest thing wrong in college football. The transfer portal is the reason many of these young players never develop. They don't exhibit an type of patience, and usually it costs them in the end.
