Will FSU football join teams who are firing coaches during the season?

Time will tell

It would surprise to see FSU fire Alex Atkins before the season ended, but it must happen because the FSU offense and offensive line is the worst I've ever seen at FSU.

His contract runs through 2027 and he'll make 1.3 million next year and 1.4 million in the final year of his contract. However, if he leaves for a head coaching job or the NFL, FSU won't owe him any money. The problem with firing coaches mid-season is that it puts more on the existing coaching staff.

However, FSU tight ends coach Chris Thomsen is a former offensive line coach who has put players in the NFL. It's possible he could take over the offensive line duties if FSU were to fire Atkins. Mike Norvell is an offensive-minded coach and QB coach Tony Tokarz could probably assist with coordinating the offense for the final few games.

I wouldn't promote Tokarz to OC, but it would be a good trial run to see how he'd perform in that role. It would surprise me if FSU moved on from Ron Dugans during the season, but FSU running backs coach David Johnson has experience coaching wide receivers.
