Why new QB commit Jaden O'Neal can shine in Gus Malzahn's offense at FSU

Final Thoughts

Jaden O'Neal is one of the more polished passers in his recruiting class with a huge arm. He's athletic enough to run, but it's the arm where he can make throws to every level and attack vertically.

It's likely Gus Malzhan will use him in the running game to add another wrinkle for opposing defenses to worry about. I'd imagine about 5-6 times per game would be enough, or in key situations when teams may not expect him to keep the ball in his hands.

We're still a long way from him playing meaningful snaps, but the success of the quarterback is dependent on way too many variables to say a guy can't play in someone's offense because he's not this or that.

Offensive coordinators at places like FSU get paid well to figure out ways to play to an offense's strengths while minimizing weaknesses.

FSU getting ANOTHER top-15 quarterback (Brady Smigiel was a top-15 QB when he de-committed) after coming off a 2-10 season speaks to the brand and the work the coaches did on the recruiting trail.
