The Florida State football team is still in the midst of spring practice and will resume activities after taking last week off for Spring Break. The Noles completed three spring practices before the break and will look to take advantage of the remaining 12 practices.
The 7-17 record over the past two seasons isn’t anywhere close to the standard, and Mike Norvell hopes to turn things around in 2026. FSU had nearly 50 players join the program in the spring, and some players have started to emerge.
However, there’s one player that Florida State would like to emerge as the MVP of spring camp. That player is transfer QB Ashton Daniels. I know some FSU faithful want redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry to be the guy, but I don’t see it.
Daniels has the experience, durability, and skillset to put up numbers in a Mike Norvell offense. One of the biggest issues for FSU last year was quarterback play. The turnovers and lack of leadership were apparent. Daniels has enough experience to command respect if he has a great spring. That won’t be the case with Sperry, because he still hasn’t done it in a game that matters. Â

Ashton Daniels becoming the MVP of the spring would be a great sign for this FSU football team and the leadership it needs
FSU will have a new offensive line and will probably need the experience of Daniels to take some of the pressure off as they learn how to gel. He usually makes quick decisions and can use his legs to create time if needed.
Daniels didn't look terrible in limited time at Auburn last year, and Mike Norvell's offense seems to fit him better than what Stanford tried to do with him. He's the most important piece to this team in the spring. It's imperative he wins the job and becomes the leader who helps set the tone.
