What should FSU do at running back after Amari Thomas de-commitment?

It's not a life or death position to fill.

It's crazy that a player you're among the first to offer and get on campus multiple times decides to de-commit after committing nine months ago, when he was the only running back in the class in an offense that will feature the running back.

That's what four-star Amari Thomas decided to do, but there were red flags when he showed up to FSU's camp wearing gloves from another program(while committed to FSU).

It's probably addition by subtraction because, while he was good, he wasn't elite and might have been a candidate to hit the transfer portal if he didn't get enough playing time behind Ousmane Kromah and others.

What's Next For FSU at running back?

They didn't have many running back targets in the class after Thomas. Four-star athlete Derek Cooper will announce his commitment this weekend. He took an official visit to FSU, but the Noles are probably running behind Texas and Miami. FSU probably isn't a realistic option unless they dump a whole pile of money in his lap. Is that a good use of resources?

Four-star Carsyn Baker committed to Florida in June but took an official visit to FSU. The Noles could work to flip him if the Gators have a lackluster season and FSU does well. The same goes for Georgia commit Joe Lamar, plus FSU has landed two four-star running backs from Georgia in recent years, including flipping Ousmane Kromah from Georgia in the last recruiting cycle.

FSU offered an unknown Charles Fortin when he came to camp last month. He's 6'1" and 210 pounds.

FSU has five running backs with multiple years of eligibility on its roster. They could save those resources and wait to take a player from the transfer portal or take two running backs in the 2027 recruiting cycle. My guess is they won't stretch the budget for this position since they believe they got a stud in freshman Ousmane Kromah.
