HORRIFIC OFFENSE IN 2024

Florida State football did not have a productive offense during the 2024 season. The coaching staff thought that they would be able to effectively establish the running game, but the offensive line underperformed severely, and it left fans searching for answers.

Head football coach Mike Norvell and his coaching staff want to erase 2024 from their memory. It is not something that the program wants to let define them.

Fast forward to this offseason, the Seminoles picked up former UCF and Boston College quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos, who excels in being able to use his legs to extend plays outside of the pocket. Plus, they added former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn to be its offensive coordinator.

EMPHASIS ON THE RUNNING GAME

Coach Malzahn has a long history of being able to establish the running game, especially with utilizing former running back RJ Harvey with the Knights.

I didn't know what the Seminoles were going to do at the running back position. The unit was ranked near the bottom in rushing statistics last season, and brought back the same rotation from 2024 with a departure of veteran Lawrance Toafili to graduation and the signing of four-star prospect Ousmane Kromah.

Sawchuk and Kromah will likely be in the rotation in 2025, but what happens to a player such as sophomore running back Kam Davis? The Georgia native recorded 53 carries for 173 yards and zero touchdowns last year.

There was a portion of the fan base that did not like his skill set since he did not make any tackles to get extra yardage. However, Davis ran extremely hard when his opportunity came.

MY THOUGHTS

It will be difficult to carve out much of a role for him since there are also pieces such as Roydell Williams, Caziah Holmes, Sam Singleton Jr., and Jaylin Lucas who should also have opportunities to shine.

Davis played quarterback during his high school years, and I know that he will do whatever it takes to ensure that his team wins. I think a smart investment for Davis would be to utilize him in the short-yardage game as the Seminoles' offense wants to capitalize in the red zone.
