Florida State baseball is coming off a run-rule victory over Wake Forest by a score of 10-0. This was an excellent confidence booster for head coach Link Jarrett and his squad after losing to the arch-rival Florida Gators disappointingly.
The fan base knew that this would be a pivotal series for the program, as they traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to take on a ranked Demon Deacons team. Wake Forest was ranked higher than Florida State, but the Seminoles knew that they needed to at least win two of three in the series, with a difficult schedule this year.
Starting pitcher Wes Mendes made himself a day with seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out 11 batters. This is exactly what the Seminoles need to ensure that they can make a deep postseason run.
Florida State baseball won another grind-it-out game thanks to the pitching of Trey Beard
Florida State baseball came back out to the field on Saturday afternoon after a stellar offensive performance. This was a Wake Forest that was now in desperation mode, with the Demon Deacons needing to protect their home field.
Pitcher Trey Beard was on the mound for Florida State, and he was sensational for the Seminoles, where he went 6.2 scoreless innings with a career-high 14 strikeouts.

These Demon Deacons have to be having nightmares because they have been shut down by both Wes Mendes and Trey Beard. Having the duo play well is so encouraging for a squad that wants to win its coveted first national championship.
The Florida State offense didn't have much success early on, but they were able to string together a couple of hits that gave the Seminoles just enough insurance to secure the victory on Saturday by a score of 2-0.
The Seminoles have already won the series, but they will be looking for the sweep against a top-ranked Wake Forest team that looks to go deep into postseason play. Florida State will play the Demon Deacons on Sunday, March 15th at 3 PM EST on the ACC Network.
