FSU baseball jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of its midweek game against Florida and proceeded to score one more run over the next eight innings, striking out 18 times. The Noles went on to lose 6-3 in an embarrassing outing from the offense.
FSU getting off to a great start in conference play was imperative as the Noles traveled to face Wake Forest in a hitter-friendly ballpark. FSU jumped to a 2-0 lead just like against Florida, but this game was totally different.
The Noles exploded for four home runs, en route to a 10-0 shutout win in seven innings, with Wes Mendes going all seven innings. He struck out 11, walked two, and allowed only two hits.

Great response from the Noles after a bad loss on Tuesday night. They will need to carry it over into Saturday's game.
FSU got on the board early in the first innings behind a Wake Forest error and a Myles Bailey two-run home run. Braydon Dowd hit a two-run home run in the third inning, and Eli Putnam hit a solo shot in the fifth inning. Brody DeLamielleure had a two-out single that drove in two runs to make it 7-0 after four innings.
However, the onslaught continued with Nathan Cmeyla and Eli Putnam hitting back-to-back jacks to make it 9-0 in the top of the fifth. Putnam grounded into a double play that scored a run in the top of the sixth to make it 10-0.
FSU pounded out 12 hits, nine walks (two IBB), and only struck out five times. It was a great response by the offense and Wes Mendes in a game they needed to win big time.
FSU won the series opener last year before getting run-ruled in two embarrassing losses to lose the series in front of its home crowd. They need to make another statement with a win on Saturday to clinch the series. Saturday's game will start at 4 p.m. and will air on the ACCNX channel.
