We’ve already highlighted the different ways Florida State baseball will look unrecognizable in 2027. They are losing several guys in the 2026 MLB Draft and have already lost a handful of starters to the transfer portal.

The hope is that Link Jarrett and Florida State will start making moves in the transfer portal soon, though I suspect they could be waiting for some guys to enter the portal from teams still competing in the Super Regionals. Though that may be more my wishful thinking than actually happening. We’ll see what happens.

Nevertheless, there are major holes on the roster, and here are the top three roster needs going into 2027:

Related Story: Link Jarrett's transfer portal exits tells me he knows he failed in constructing the Florida State roster in 2026

All Pitching: FSU will likely lose all three starting pitchers in the 2026 MLB Draft. There isn’t anyone on the roster I’d consider a candidate to take a starting role on the weekends. They have Payton Manca and Cooper Whited likely returning, but they were midweek starters or long relief guys out of the bullpen. Manca might evolve into a Sunday starter. FSU will also lose its top bullpen arms. Frankly, FSU will need to replace nearly its entire pitching staff.

Power Bats: FSU could return 2-3 proven bats in 2027, but will likely lose the team leader in home runs, Myles Bailey. You know it’s sad when Bailey only played in the first 26 games and still led the team in home runs for the season. Florida State needs some proven hitters with power from the transfer portal/JUCO ranks. It needs offense period, because the offense was among the worst in the ACC this past year. The number of strikeouts (27.5 percent of their at-bats) for a team that didn’t hit many home runs was astounding.

HITTING COACH: If nothing else was evident this season, it’s that Florida State needs a real hitting coach. The number of uncompetitive at-bats, inability to situationally hit, get bunts down, or avoid striking out so much was apparent. The concerning trend is that the offense has regressed in each of the past four years with Link Jarrett as the head coach. The pitching and defense have improved for the most part, but the inability to score runs is what prevented Florida State from making it to the Super Regionals. The lack of an approach, awful swings in hitter counts, and inability to make adjustments were maddening.

If FSU doesn’t hit some home runs in the portal for pitching and hitters, it’s going to be worse than this past year.
