LB STEFON THOMPSON
The Seminoles picked up Memphis's Elijah Herring, Nebraska's Stefon Thompson, and North Carolina's Caleb LaVallee at the linebacker position from the transfer portal. All three linebackers are capable of being successful in Tony White's multiple 3-3-5 defensive scheme.
Herring has been a consistent figure in the middle of the Seminoles' defense. Meanwhile, LaVallee has been battling through an injury that he suffered in the spring, but you like the potential of him for the upcoming years with Florida State.
This leaves former Nebraska transfer Stefon Thompson. This was a pickup that I thought could have been beneficial for the program, since Thompson has been familiar with Tony White's defense, given that he played at Nebraska and Syracuse under him.
However, the veteran did not perform up to expectations with the Cornhuskers as he recorded 27 tackles, two pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. We will see if it is an outlier for Thompson as he has 199 tackles (21 for loss), 10.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two pass breakups, and a fumble recovery.
The veteran hasn't been discussed by the coaching staff, so I wonder if he will start gaining traction as the season quickly approaches.
