Florida State football is trying to make a splash in the transfer portal with a couple of acquisitions that could put them over the top. The Seminoles have struggled to generate wins on the gridiron, as they have accomplished seven victories in two years.

Head football coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles are trying to change the negative discussion around the program and turn it into sustainable success.

This transfer portal window has already got the fan base discussing the moves of the coaching staff and front office because Anthony Colandrea (UNLV) and DJ Lagway (Florida) are visiting campus. We have already seen Florida State get transfers in the past, such as DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos, who didn't pan out as well.

However, this is a new opportunity with a chance for Coach Norvell to prove that he belongs in Tallahassee for the long haul. We at ChopChat never want to see anyone get canned that wear the Garnet and Gold, but we also understand that there is a championship-level expectation here.

Lagway got a ton of dislike from individuals within the fan base, and even myself, who poked fun at the five-interception performance against LSU, where I mentioned that the signal-caller wasn't any good. While I am not moving the goalposts because there is a chance that he comes to Florida State, I will admit that the former five-star prospect could benefit from a change of scenery.

One reason that it could also be interesting if Lagway commits to Florida State is that it could open the door for the Seminoles to get Texas running back transfer portal Tre Wisner, who is visiting the campus on Sunday afternoon. Lagway is supposed to extend his visit for when Wisner is coming in. It could be that Lagway commits and tries to eliminate Wisner from going to Ole Miss as planned.

Wisner had 131 carries for 597 yards and three touchdowns on the ground during the 2025 season, while also rushing for 1,064 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 for the Longhorns (according to ESPN Stats and Information). His most impressive performance was the regular season finale against Texas A&M, where he had 19 carries for 155 yards.

Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn explained in a media session that he was used to having a workhorse back throughout his coaching career, but he had to utilize a committee approach with Florida State in 2025.

While Lagway isn't the most exciting prospect with his turnover issues, Wisner could be a back that could move the needle for the Seminoles in 2026. That dynamic duo could generate excitement for an offense that wants sustainability and to win football games.
