Florida State football fans know that the program has to secure a quarterback prospect because it only has two scholarship options on the roster. We saw what happened in 2024 when the Seminoles acquired DJ Uiagalelei when they thought that Cam Ward was too expensive.
However, Florida State is now trying its hand at hosting not one, not two, but three quarterback transfers on Sunday with DJ Lagway, Anthony Colandrea, and Ashton Daniels. The Seminoles should expand their options and not limit themselves.
I will say that the most intriguing option is Florida's DJ Lagway. He came from an arch-rival and ruined Florida State's bowl eligibility chances to close out the 2025 season. While everyone remembers running back Jadan Baugh collecting 266 rushing yards against the Seminoles, Lagway completed 15 of his 24 passes for 168 yards with three touchdowns and one interception (according to ESPN Stats and Information).
Lagway was someone that the Seminole fan base, including myself, picked on because of his performances throughout the season and thought that he was "overrated" given his preseason expectations. The game against LSU, where he threw five interceptions, was a prime example.
Nonetheless, the talent is there with Lagway, but it has to be very awkward for him to come to Tallahassee to visit. I could see the potential with him being a former five-star prospect, but so was DJ Uiagalelei. He is still young and might just need a change of scenery.
However, head football coach Mike Norvell and his squad are playing for his job security in 2026, and I don't think the smart investment is Lagway if he has a history of struggles. Unless the coaching staff is confident with evidence that they can turn him around developmentally.
