Is Michael Alford on the hot seat?
There are some rumblings that Michael Alford has made some enemies with some important people, according to Jeff Cameron. We’ve had at least one other person to give some credence to that. Is that a fact?
Who knows, but there could be some truth to some people who hold many of the purse strings, who could help FSU make a move, not wanting Michael Alford to make the next football hire.
Alford has made some solid hires in bringing Link Jarrett home for FSU baseball. He retained Lonni Alameda for FSU softball when Texas A&M pursued her hard. He brought in Brian Pensky for FSU Soccer.
It’s too early to discuss the Luke Loucks hire for FSU basketball, but that looks promising in the first few months.
Michael Alford has been adamant that he believes the salary cap model will work in college athletics. However, that seems extremely naive based on how many teams throw money around like crazy to get players.
We’ll have to see how this plays out moving forward, but not firing Mike Norvell could be tied to Michael Alford and some power players behind the scenes.
