Rushing Defense

One of the hallmarks of a Tony White defense is the ability to stop the run game.

It's an area FSU struggled last year, as they faced multiple dual-threat QBs and often wore down during games because the offense didn't help, and some guys checked out. The Noles allowed 4.65 yards per rush last season.

That's eerily similar to the Nebraska defense in 2022 before Tony White arrived. The Cornhuskers allowed 4.55 yards per rush that season.

However, in White's first year as the defensive coordinator, Nebraska improved to only allow 2.97 yards per rush. The 2023 FSU defense that became borderline elite only held teams to 4.19 yards per rush.

FSU returns experience at the defensive tackle and linebacker positions, and having James Williams and Stefon Thompson coming over from Nebraska should expedite the learning curve in year one.

Plus, FSU added some big bodies from the transfer portal that should aid in the physicality needed to impose their will against the run game.
