FSU FOOTBALL OFFSEASON

Florida State football enters a pivotal sixth season under head coach Mike Norvell, who went 2-10 last season. This was not the standard for the Seminoles' program, which is used to competing for conference and national championships.

Norvell had to make some difficult decisions regarding acquiring new coaches and players via the recruiting ranks and transfer portal. The Seminoles have a brand-new team that many individuals do not know what to expect.

Florida State made headlines by acquiring former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn to be their offensive coordinator. Malzahn is known for establishing the running game. The Seminoles need a spark in that dimension of the offense after they only averaged 89.4 rushing yards per game last year.

RUNNING BACK GROUP

The Seminoles entered the offseason with the same stable of backs as last year, minus contributor Lawrance Toafili, and added four-star prospect Ousmane Kromah from the 2025 cycle. Florida State saw a good opportunity to add a veteran to the room with former Oklahoma transfer Gavin Sawchuk.

Sawchuk had 744 rushing yards and nine touchdowns during the 2023 season with the Sooners, then Kromah was acquired in the recruiting ranks after he was thought to be signing with the Georgia Bulldogs. Both of them have high expectations in the equation of running the football this year.

However, an unforgotten piece is sophomore running back Kameron Davis. He was a former four-star prospect that they grabbed in the 2024 recruiting cycle. Davis had 52 carries for 173 yards in his freshman season, but he showcased flashes of running physically.

The fan base did not care for him much because he didn't break out of many tackles, but the 2024 season for Florida State football was a disaster, and almost everything that transpired needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Overall, I believe that Davis could be in line to get some short yardage and goal line work in the Malzahn offense if he continues to work hard in the offseason.
