Veteran offensive lineman is practicing with the Seminoles for fall camp
Florida State football has the luxury of having a veteran offensive line for the 2024 season. This certainly helps when there are several newcomers in the offense such as quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, running backs Roydell Williams and Jaylin Lucas, and wide receivers Malik Benson and Jalen Brown.
Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins is excited about what he has in the offensive line rotation. We know that redshirt senior and All-ACC First Team member Darius Washington is solidified as the left tackle where head football coach Mike Norvell even noted that Washington is an All-American type of tackle.
Washington played all over the offensive line last season where he saw opportunities at tackle, guard, and center. The Pensacola native is getting a chance to play where he is most comfortable in 2024 which is tackle where he is tasked with protecting the blind side of quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.
One player that I was worried about coming into fall camp was redshirt senior offensive tackle Robert Scott Jr. The Conway, Arkansas native has played a ton of snaps for the Seminoles but his main concern lately has been his health. I think Scott Jr. can be a All-ACC Third Team nominee (or even higher) if he stays healthy.
The good news is that Scott Jr. has been participating in fall camp thus far (*knocks on wood*). This is a massive development for the lifeblood of the offensive line. I believe that veteran transfer Jeremiah Byers will have a bounce-back campaign in 2024 after struggling with consistency last season.
If the former Class of 2020 three-star prospect is healthy, then that will give the Seminoles more competition for the right tackle spot as players such as Robert Scott Jr., Jeremiah Byers, Andre Otto, Jaylen Early, and Lucas Simmons battle it out.
I am so happy that Scott Jr. is out there competing. I wish nothing more than for him to have a healthy and prosperous senior season at Florida State.
